The Premier League season resumes following midweek games across Europe. Liverpool host Sheffield at Anfield on Saturday. The Reds are third with 10 points in five games. While the Blades are at the bottom of the table…
On Wednesday, Liverpool went to Amsterdam and defatted Ajax 1-0 in the Champions League. The Reds return to Anfield as they look to defend their Premier League title. In their last Premier League game, Liverpool drew 2-2 with Everton. However, the game was costly, as the Reds lost center-back Virgil van Dijk for the rest of the season with a knee injury. The loss of van Dijk creates a massive void in the middle of Liverpool’s defense that could leave them vulnerable to making mistakes. Upfront, Mohamed Salah is off to an incredible strike. The Egyptian winger leads the club with six goals, while his running mate Sadio Mane has four goals.
After four straight losses to start the season, Sheffield rebounded with a 1-1 draw against Fulham to pick up their first point of the season. The Blades are tied with two other clubs for the fewest points so far. While Sheffield have been playing well defensively, only allowing seven goals. They have been a complete disaster going forward. The Blades have only scored two goals. Manager Chris Wilder will likely be extremely conservative in an away game against the defending Premier League champions. Sheffield will be satisfied if they steal a point on Saturday.
